If your company, no matter how big or small, would like to support the York Teaching Hospital Charity we would love to hear from you. We have lots of ideas about how your company can get involved with fundraising which we have listed below.
Payroll Giving is quick and easy to set-up and administer. Payroll Giving is a great way for you to demonstrate commitment to the causes that your employees care about. It can also aid retention and recruitment of staff, and enable you to generate a sustainable income stream to charities.
Giving through payroll couldn't be easier and it is also tax-effective too. Donations are deducted from employee salaries before tax which ensures we receive the full amount of their chosen donation at no extra cost to them. Choosing to donate through payroll provides the charity with a regular, reliable income stream that enables us to plan and budget for the future. Please see the table below for examples of how employee pledges are calculated:
| Employee pledge | Actual cost to a standard rate tax payer -20% | Actual cost to a higher rate tax payer -40% |
|---|---|---|
| £5 | £4 | £3 |
| £10 | £8 | £6 |
| £15 | £12 | £9 |
Once your company has a Payroll Giving scheme in place, your employee simply completes a form that they can usually get from the company Payroll Department or Personnel, and fill in details about the charity/ies they would like to support. This is then forwarded on to a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA) to deduct their pre-tax chosen amount from their salary. Their donation is then forwarded monthly to the PGA and they then distribute the gift each month to the charity/ies of their choice.
If your company doesn't already have a Payroll Giving scheme in place, please visit the Payroll Giving Centre's website for more information about setting one up: www.payrollgivingcentre.org.uk.
