Dunnington Cricket Club organised a Sponsored Walk on Easter Sunday from York Hospital, back to a special event at Dunnington Sports Club.
Walkers arrived in the old car park at York hospital at 10.30am for a mass start. Donations and a raffle totalled a whopping £2,500 to be evenly split between the York Hospital's STAR Appeal and Junior Development at the Cricket Club.
Participants followed a 6.5 mile route and finished at Dunnington Sports Club at around 2pm for refreshments and activities. The walk followed the route of the old 'Derwent Valley Light Railway' (DVLR) on what is now 'Route 66 of the National Cycle Network'.
In recent times Dunnington Cricket Club has witnessed too many of their players and families being hit by unexpected and serious illnesses. Two former players have also suffered strokes so it is very timely that the club decided to recognise the work of York Hospital's Stroke Rehabilitation unit.
Lucy Watson, Fundraising Manager for the York Teaching Hospital Charity said, "We would like to thank Dunnington Cricket Club for organising the sponsored walk in support of the Star Appeal. It is such a fantastic amount of money raised and every penny really will help us to reach our target of £300,000 as quickly as possible so we can refurbish the Stroke Rehabilitation unit at York Hospital. It was a great day and we hope everyone really enjoyed the walk."
