The Neuroscience unit opened in 1996 at York Hospital, comprising of a custom built centre that includes Neurology out-patient facilities, a fully equipped Neurophysiology suite, as well as housing all aspects of the multidisciplinary team.
This team consists of three Consultant Neurologists, one Consultant Neurophysiologist, one Clinical Assistant and one Senior House Officer and are supported by Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease and Headache Nurse Specialists, Neuro Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Social worker and Clinical Psychologists. There is also access into the services of Speech and Language Therapy, and dietician.
Neurology in-patient services are provided on Ward 32, with day case services provided by the Medical Elective Suite.
A Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist who is supported by a team of technicians provides Neurophysiology services. A full range of clinics is provided at York Hospital including EEG, EMG/NCS, EP and Video-telemetry investigations. EMG/NCS clinics are provided at Harrogate District Hospital.
