£7,800 raised for Selby District Council's charities
This year's Chairman of Selby District Council, Councillor Jack Crawford has raised an incredible £7,800 for his chosen charities; the Breast Care Unit at York Hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support and Barnardo's. Each charity will receive £2,600 each.
Councillor Crawford and his family worked tirelessly throughout his year as Chairman by organising a range of fundraising events. These include concerts at Selby Abbey and the Church of St Edward's the Confessor in Brotherham, Proms in the Park, a chocolate tombola at Selby Christmas markets and manning Selby's car parks on the bank holidays. The Chairman also received generous donations from members of the local community.
Councillor Crawford said, "Kathleen and I have really enjoyed our year of Civic Office and with the fantastic help of all my family and Lucy Lowthian from York Hospital, we have raised £7,800 to be divided between our three charities."
Councillor Crawford's original target was to raise £1,000 for each charity which he has nearly tripled thanks to his family's efforts.
Lucy Lowthian, Fundraising Manager for the York Teaching Hospital Charity said, "It has been an absolute pleasure working with Councillor Crawford and his family throughout the last year and they have worked so hard to raise such a huge amount of money for his chosen charities. It is a significant amount that will make a huge difference to all our Breast Cancer patients in the unit and we would like to thank Councillor Crawford and his family for their fantastic support."
