Council of Governors
As an NHS Foundation Trust, we have a Council of Governors who represent the views of the Foundation Trust membership and hold the Trust Board to account.
The Council of Governors provide support and advice to the Trust to:
- ensure that the Trust delivers services that best meet the needs of patients and the communities we serve
- ensure that the Trust provides high quality, effective and patient-focused services
- ensure high standards of corporate governance and personal conduct
- promote effective dialogue between the Trust and the local communities we serve.
In addition, the Council of Governors fulfil a number of formal functions such as the appointment of external auditors. The Council of Governors may, at a General Meeting, appoint or remove the Chairman and the other Non-executive Directors of the Trust, although the decision to remove a Non-executive Director would require the support of three-quarters of the Council of Governors. You can read more about the role of our Governors here.
The Council of Governors consists of public governors, patient governors and staff governors who have all been elected by their constituencies from the membership of the Foundation Trust. It also includes nominated representatives from the Local Authority, University and other partnership organisations. For a list of governors, follow this link.
The governors represent the interests of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust members and stakeholder organisations in the local health economy in the governance of the NHS Foundation Trust.
The Council of Governors meets four times a year in public and is chaired by the Chair of the Trust, Susan Symington. Papers for the Council of Governors' meetings are available on request by emailing Cheryl Gaynor in the Chief Executive's Office or telephone 01904 725075.
If you would like to contact the governors, contact firstname.lastname@example.org stating the name of the governor you wish to contact in the email.
Governors are not able to deal with complaints against the Hospital Trust but will ensure that your message is passed on to the most appropriate person. You can also find information about making a complaint here.
