Medicine for the Elderly

Service Summary

The Department of Elderly Medicine provides both acute medical and rehabilitation care to people over 75 years of age. Some of our specialist areas listed below provide services to adult patients of all ages.

The Service comprises of:

• Three Acute Elderly Wards (Wards 23, 24 and 25)

• A Joint Elderly and Psychiatric Assessment Unit (Ward 37)

• An Acute Stroke Unit (Ward 36), caring for adult patients of all ages who have suffered from a Stroke

• A Stroke Rehabilitation Ward (Ward 39), caring for adult patients of all ages who require rehabilitation following a Stroke

• A Hip Fracture Unit (Ward 29), caring for adult patients of all ages who have fractured their hip

We also have two Community Rehabilitation Hospitals for the Elderly based at Whitecross Court (off Haxby Road) and St Helen's (off Tadcaster Road).

Outpatient clinics are held at York Hospital, Selby War Memorial Hospital, Tadcaster, Pocklington and the Community Hospitals
