Many infections can be passed on by contact so we need the help of patients to prevent this. Cleaning hands is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of all infections and we encourage our patients to do this as well as our staff.
Here are a few tips:
ask the staff caring for you whether they have cleaned their hands - they really do not mind
use the hand cleaning facilities at every bed side, ward entrance and every bedside and encourage your visitors to do so as well
please tell a member of staff if you see a spillage or something which needs cleaning
please clean your hands with the gel before meals and wash them after you've used the toilet
please do not sit on another patient's bed
bring personal toiletries including soap and a clean flannel with you. Men should bring their own razor in with them.
