Since then the service has grown significantly, with the opening of Easingwold and Harrogate Renal Satellite Units, a Self Care Dialysis Unit in Selby, and an Acute Dialysis Unit in York Hospital. A further a Self Care Unit is under construction in Harrogate. Our Dialysis Units have a strong focus on shared haemodialysis care, working in partnership with patients to promote greater treatment independence.
We have a strong Renal Multi-Disciplinary Team comprising specialist Dieticians, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Physiotherapists, an Art Worker and Renal Technicians who work closely together with the Renal Physicians and Specialist Nurses.
The haemodialysis service currently comprises a 13 station Chronic Dialysis Unit and a 4 station Acute Dialysis Unit in York Hospital, 10 stations at the Easingwold Satellite Unit, 8 dialysis stations in the Harrogate Satellite Unit, 2 stations in the Selby Self-Care Unit and a 30 bedded Renal / Gastroenterology Medical Ward with 3 plumbed dialysis beds. The renal team also support a 3 station haemodialysis facility at HMP Full Sutton.
Home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis therapies are also provided by the renal service with over 250 patients under follow up following a Renal Transplant.
The renal service provides Consultant led care assisted by Renal Specialist Nurses, working in Pre Dialysis, Pre & Post Transplant, Conservative care, Vascular Access and Anaemia Management areas. A dedicated renal pharmacy team provides specialist support.
Outpatient clinics are run at York Hospital with outreach clinics at Harrogate Hospital, Wetherby Health Centre, Selby Hospital, Malton Hospital and soon to start in Scarborough Hospital.
