Speech and Language Therapy - Children

The NHS Speech and Language Therapy service for Children is based in Health Centres ,Children's Centres, schools ,CDCs and in the home. We see children from 0-18 years of age for assessment and therapy with advice and support to their families and schools. We have a well developed team of Generalist and Specialist therapists supported by Speech and Language Therapy assistants and administrative staff. All our staff are registered with the Health Professionals Council.

What is a Speech and Language Therapist?

Speech and Language Therapists work with people who have communication difficulties. The paediatric service supports children who have problems with:

  • Eating, drinking and swallowing

  • Listening and attention

  • Understanding what people say to them

  • Interacting with others

  • Saying sounds and words

  • Putting words into sentences

  • Stammering

  • Voice difficulties

Speech and Language Therapists support the parents and carers in the child's life, also offering advice to other professionals e.g. school and pre-school staff, and fellow health professionals.
