Ear, Nose and Throat and Otolaryngology

Our ENT Department provides comprehensive and specialised care covering both medical and surgical conditions related not just to the ear, nose and throat, but also other areas in the head and neck region.

We deal with all aspects of ENT from minor to emergency procedures, to major complex head and neck surgery for patients with cancer.

The ENT department provides elective and emergency services for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery. Operations are carried out at:

• York Hospital

• Harrogate Hospital

• Scarborough Hospital

• Bridlington Hospital (day case)

Emergency admissions are to York Hospital. Scarborough Hospital also provides specialist cover for ENT emergencies, Monday to Friday between 9-5. Outside these hours and during weekends and holidays, emergency specialist cover is provided by York Hospital.

General outpatient clinics are held at:

• Selby

• Thirsk

• Ripon

• Pocklington

• Malton

Specialised clinics for voice/dysphagia, balance, thyroid oncology, neck lump, head and neck oncology, and nurse-led ear clinic, are located at York Hospital.

The Consultants and secretaries offices and the outpatient clinics are located in the Head and Neck Unit, at the north end of York Hospital, above the Mallard restaurant. Our adult patients are on Ward 15 and on the Extended Stay Day Surgery Ward. Our paediatric patients are on Ward 17.
