Our occupational therapy service is a single service spanning both the acute and community settings. It covers most clinical areas and inputs to multiple sites as well as patient's homes.
In order to provide a high quality occupational therapy service we are divided into clinical specialist teams. All teams are co-ordinated by senior staff who are specialists in their fields. They are responsible for the development of junior staff, students and assistants. All our qualified staff are registered with the Health Professions Council.
Occupational therapists work with people of all ages to achieve the most out of their life.
They help people with physical, mental or social problems which may have resulted from illness, injury or general ageing.
An occupational therapists work could involve:-
Planning a safe discharge from hospital
Helping people to learn new or different ways of doing everyday tasks
Assessing and recommending equipment and adaptations
Returning to work
Managing fatigue and pain
Working with schools
Setting up rehabilitation programmes

During your first appointment the occupational therapist will wish to assess you. This could take between 30 - 60 minutes. The occupational therapist will ask you some questions about your everyday routine and how you normally manage. They will work with you to establish what is difficult and identify the reasons why in order to improve your independence in the things that are most important to you. Solutions will be recommended and where necessary a treatment plan carried out.
