Our services

Blood taking service (phlebotomy)

Having a blood test

We collect blood samples from patients and send them to the pathology laboratories for analysis. In order to have a blood test, you will need a request form.

It will be of great assistance if you are able to remove your coat or jacket before entering the blood test room. When you enter the room the blood taker (phlebotomist) will ask you to confirm your name and date of birth. Your blood samples will then be collected.

The results of your blood tests will be reported directly to the person who requested your tests, usually your GP or consultant. If you have any specific questions about your investigations, please discuss them with your GP or consultant as the phlebotomist will not be able to answer these for you.

Our blood taking services are closed on bank holidays.

York Hospital

The blood taking service at York Hospital outpatient department is open to walk in patients between 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. We ask, however, that patients attend the community blood taking service wherever possible.

York Community Stadium

The new Community Stadium is on Kathryn Avenue, Monks Cross Drive, Huntington, YO32 9AF, which has free parking up to two hours.  Please note there is no longer a blood taking service at ASDA, Monks Cross.

Opening times

Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.45pm.  Quieter times are between 8am-9.30am Tuesday to Friday.

Please may we ask patients only to attend, unless requiring the support of a carer. This is due limited space within the waiting area.

Due to our service being a drop-in service, there may be occasions where patients attending after 5.15pm will be asked to return at a later date due to high numbers of patients already waiting.

As the stadium is used for a variety of events, there may be changes to opening times. Any temporary changes to opening times will be announced via the Trust's Facebook page.

The New Selby War Memorial Hospital

The blood taking service at Selby War Memorial Hospital is open to walk in patients between 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Patients attending blood taking at the beginning of the week may experience longer wait times.  We have recently extended our opening hours and are now open on a Friday afternoon.

Opening times

Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm.

Scarborough Hospital
