About us

Freedom of Information

Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000, the public has the right to see information held by public authorities, including NHS organisations.

The Act is designed to increase transparency.  Members of the public should be able to routinely access information that is in the public interest and is safe to disclose, unless there is a good reason for them not to.

The Trust has two main obligations under the Act.  We must publish certain information proactively; and respond to requests for information.

The Act allows access to recorded information, such as policies and procedures, reports, minutes of meetings, and correspondence.

How do I make a request for information?

To make a FOI request you can do so by either emailing the Trust at: foirequests@york.nhs.uk

or contact us in writing at:

Freedom of Information
2nd Floor Administration Block
Wigginton Road
York
YO31 8HE

We aim to reply to requests within 20 working days.

Trust Publication Scheme

The FOI Act requires every public authority to publish a Publication Scheme that tells people what information is routinely available to them, and how to get it.  York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has adopted the Information Commissioner's Model Scheme for NHS Bodies in England.  Information is provided under seven class headings:

Will I always get what I ask for?

The Trust strives to be open and is normally able to satisfy requests in full.  However the right of access is not absolute and some requests may have to be refused, or refused in part.

Decisions will be made subject to the law, taking into account the public interest, and applicants have the right of appeal.
