You helped to raise £182, 975.06 for the Dementia Appeal.
It is estimated that 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK and one in six people over the age of 80. With an aging population, the demand on our hospitals to provide a dementia friendly environment and specialised care is only going to increase.
Every patient living with dementia should leave our hospitals as fit and healthy as possible, rather than experience a decline in their condition that can happen when a person is in an unfamiliar environment for a length of time.
What we've done so far...
Traffic Light water jugs to help decrease cases of dehydration among patients with Dementia.
'My Life System' which patients can use to play music, games and view family photos.
Specialist 'Teepa' Staff Training to promote a more positive approach to care and allow for a greater understanding of Dementia.
Activity boxes including a range of games and reminiscent items for patients to enjoy and engage with and stimulate earlier memories.
How you can help
You can help us by knitting some Twiddlemuffs for our patients across our hospitals.
Twiddlemuffs act as a great distraction for patients with Dementia and we are always welcoming supplies of them!
