Fundraising in your school

Whatever the size of your school, we can work together to make a positive difference to ensure the best quality of care is provided to all those who visit our hospitals. Supporting York Teaching Hospital Charity (YTHC) can deliver so many benefits to your school such as motivating your pupils and teachers, supporting a local cause, or just having more fun! Please download our fundraising booklet for schools 'A lesson in Fundraising' here.

Working together with York Teaching Hospital Charity

There are lots of exciting ways your school and the charity can work together:

Choose us as your Charity of the Year

We would love your school to choose us as your 'Charity of the Year'. By doing this you will be supporting a local cause that really benefits your teachers, pupils and their families. The Fundraising team can provide you with excellent support, materials and lots of fundraising tips and ideas throughout the year.

Lindhead School in Burniston, Scarborough have chosen the Snowdrop Appeal and the Children's Ward at Scarborough Hospital as their Charity of the Year for the last two years and have raised a fabulous £1,101.76 through school concerts and competitions.

Organise an event

Organising an event on behalf of the YTHC is a fun way to get everyone involved. We can tailor an events programme for your school that includes events inside and outside the classroom. These can include a dress down day or a sponsored event such as a netball or football match.

Recently all of the primary schools in Whitby came together with Scarborough Borough Council to plant hundreds of Snowdrop bulbs across the town in recognition of the towns support for The Snowdrop Appeal.

Support one of our Appeals or make a donation

The charity has a rolling appeals programme within the community and we have recently raised over £134,000 to create a maternity bereavement suite at Scarborough Hospital. By supporting our appeals, your school can raise money for a tangible asset within the hospital itself and we can also provide a plaque to be displayed in recognition of your support. Most recently, Stakesby School raised £125.00 from a Dress Down Day for the Snowdrop Appeal.

You could also choose to make a donation to the hospital. This could be restricted for a specific ward or department or for the general charitable fund so we can support the areas which need it the most. You can donate by post, telephone or online by visiting

Charity resources

The charity can provide your school with resources to assist you with your fundraising. The charity can provide collection tins, buckets, balloons, t-shirts, posters and leaflets. Your school will also have assistance from the charity's Fundraising Team to provide any help and support you may need such as gaining press coverage and tailoring an events programme.

Talks in your school

One of our lovely Fundraising team will be happy to visit and give a school assembly about the charity or attend classroom sessions to talk in more detail about fundraising.

We can provide your pupils with Career Resource packs regarding working within the NHS and tailor these packs depending on specific interests and we can also organise 'Speed Dating' career sessions within the hospital to give your pupils tasters about the various professions available within the NHS. This is all supported by our Recruitment team within the Trust.
