New outdoor area for Scarborough discharge lounge
A new outside area has been created outside the discharge lounge at Scarborough Hospital so that patients can enjoy the fresh air while waiting to be discharged.
Staff on the unit put in a request for charitable funds to convert a tiny space between the windows and wall after patients had commented how nice it would be to sit outside to wait for their transport when the weather was nice.
The area is directly outside the lounge itself, and the floor to ceiling windows mean that staff can keep a close eye on patients.
Adele Edwards, Staff Nurse in the Discharge Lounge, said: “Patients have asked on numerous occasions whether they could sit outside and it’s such a pleasure to be able to make that happen. The estates team have even managed to fit in two benches so many thanks to them for all their hard work and to York Teaching Hospital Charity for allocating the funds.”
