“I am part of the hotel services team as Catering Supervisor within Estates and Facilities.  I started working in the NHS in 2001 joining the catering team at Malton Hospital.

“I did my catering training in 1987 at Scarborough Technical Collage learning all aspects of catering.  I enjoyed my three years at college having the chance to help with charity functions working alongside Keith Floyd and Antony Worrall Thompson gaining lots of experience.  After leaving college I went to work in a restaurant for few years then worked in social and mental health care where I found it a challenging but enjoyable job working with people with different health problems and issues.

“On a daily basis I oversee the meal provision for patients, visitors and staff.  I enjoy very much working with a fab team and over the years we have provided the local police with breakfasts, pack ups and prisoner meals and even catered for weddings when I first came here.  In my time working in the NHS I have seen a lot of changes with a new structure of services and I have embraced these with the usual positive outlook. It’s important to support staff to fulfill our new job roles or tasks on a daily basis.

“As a supervisor I look after portering and domestic staff and I am a link trainer which means I support staff in their training needs to help them progress and continue the good work they do.

“I really do enjoy working for the NHS as you get to meet a lot of different people from all walks of life either in your job role helping fellow work colleagues or going about your day to day job just meeting people in the corridors offering your help.

“Over the past 17 years I have been involved in a lot of fundraising activities at Malton Hospital and in the local community. I was honoured to have been put forward for a Volunteer of the Year Award within the Trust for my charity work as Chairman of the Malton, Norton and District Hospital League of Friends for over 10 years.  The Friends support the good work the service has provided in the last 70 years and we should all be proud of our staff and the work of the Friends, the hospital charity and other organisations for continuing this fantastic work we all do on a daily basis.

“I am so proud to be a part of the NHS and I respect and value each person I come across on a daily basis who works alongside me at the hospital and in the NHS. In my eyes we all are working for the same goal - to provide and offer the service that we all deserve when using the NHS.”
