Bank staff urgently required to support the NHS
As the effects of the restrictions relating to COVID-19 are felt across the hospitality, catering and visitor attraction sectors, the NHS needs additional staff in order to meet the increased demand and reduced staffing levels.
People who are in any of the categories that are advised to self-isolate during the Coronavirus restrictions will not be able to join our bank team at part of this recruitment.
If you are currently furloughed from your employer, working for us will not affect your pay from them.
Scarborough Hospital Bank positions
Chef (Band 2)
You will need all of the following:
- City & Guilds 147, 150, 151, or 706/1, 706/2 or NVQ Level 3 and Level 4.
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- Minimum of 12 months experience of working in a Production Catering Environment
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Able to read, write and converse in English
On the job training will be provided.
Cleaning Operative (Band 2)
Working on the wards. You will need all of the following:
- Knowledge of COSHH in relation to chemicals used in cleaning
- Minimum 6 months experience in a commercial cleaning environment
- Trained in manual handling (evidence of internal training)
- Knowledge of legionella and flushing procedures
- Able to read, write and converse in English
- Ability to undertake high quality cleaning work
- Previously used a range of cleaning equipment, including mops, vacuums and floor scrubbing machines etc
- Knowledge and experience of colour coded procedures in identified risk areas
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Basic understanding of, or a willingness to complete appropriate training, relating to use of equipment such as floor machinery
There is a minimum of 15 hours of training for this role.
Cleaning & Catering Operative (Band 2)
Working on the wards and in the production kitchen. You will need the following:
- Food Hygiene at Level 1or 2

- Minimum 6 months experience in a commercial kitchen or cleaning environment
- Trained in manual handling (evidence of internal training)
- Knowledge of legionella and flushing procedures
- Able to read, write and converse in English Ability to undertake high quality cleaning/catering work
- Ability to work on your own or as part of a team
- Good customer service skills
- Trust worthy
- Previously used a range of cleaning equipment, including mops, vacuums and floor scrubbing machines etc
- Knowledge and experience of colour coded procedures in identified risk areas
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Basic understanding of, or a willingness to complete appropriate training, relating to use of equipment such as regeneration ovens, dishwashers and floor machinery
There is a minimum of 15 hours of training for this role.
Mechanical Craftsperson (Band 4)
You will need all of the following:
- BTEC, City and Guilds Craft Certificate or NVQ 3 qualifications in engineering discipline (preferably mechanical engineering)
- Completed a recognised Apprenticeship
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Able to read, write and converse in English
There will be a one day initial assessment period as a minimum.
Painter/Decorator (Band 3)
You will need all of the following:
- GCSE English & Maths grades C or above or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years working within the Painting and Decorating industry
- Ability to use tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Able to read, write and converse in English
There will be a one day initial assessment period as a minimum.
General Facilities Operatives
Working across Portering, Linen and Environment. This role is required to work a variety of shifts including nights. You will need the following:
- Minimum 6 months experience of moving people, equipment or materials around a location or building with demand led by others
- Manual handling trained
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Good customer service skills
- Able to read, write and converse in English
- Able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Trust worthy
There is a minimum of 15 hours of training for this role.
York Hospital Bank positions
Postal Services Operative (Band 2)
You will need all of the following:
- English and Maths GCSE Grade C and above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience
- Computer literate through qualification and / or experience
- Customer Service Skills
This role has a minimum of one week of training

Bank staff receive pay at their respective band (Band 2 - £9.23 - £9.91 per hour; Band 3 - £9.93 - £10.84 per hour; Band 4 - £11.22 - £12.38 per hour) plus 12.07% uplift in lieu of holidays. In addition, unsocial hours payments will be paid if you work any hours between 8.00pm and 6.00am Monday to Friday and any hours on a weekend or bank holiday. Bank work allows you the flexibility to accept shifts that fit around your other commitments.
Paid training and uniforms will be provided. You will need to make yourself available to attend the training. You will need a DBS check, which York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management will also fund for you.
