Hearing problems? Come meet the experts

The Audiology Department at York Hospital is throwing open its doors to the public for the first time with a unique event that will give people who are affected by hearing problems the opportunity to see what’s provided by their local NHS.

Audiology covers a wide range of services, and the open day on Tuesday 7 November will give people the chance to meet their audiology team and find out more about the comprehensive care on offer.

Kate Iley, Head of Audiology at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming anyone who wants to find out more about audiology, whether it’s finding out what support is available for those with hearing problems, to learning more about hearing aids and hearing accessories.

“People are often very surprised at the scope of the audiology department. As well as expert advice on hearing aids for children and adults, we offer treatment for conditions such as tinnitus and balance problems.

“Our team will also be on hand for people who would like to find out more about a career in audiology, the NHS offers a fascinating choice of roles and a diverse range of patients. No two days are ever the same!”

Audiology is situated within York Hospital’s Head and Neck Department and will be open between 9:30 and 11:30am. As well as trained audiology staff, there will be information from relevant charities and specialist equipment suppliers.
