New equipment for Selby Hospital thanks to generous donations
New high-tech equipment donated to Selby Hospital will mean that more patients from Selby and the surrounding area will be able to have their operations and treatment locally.
The Friends of The New Selby War Memorial Hospital and York Teaching Hospital Charity have donated over thirty thousand pounds for the hospital to buy an extra operating theatre table. The Friends and York Teaching Hospital Charity have also equally funded a Diathermy Machine which helps people with muscle and joint conditions.
Mr Kanak Patel, Consultant in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to formally say thank you to the fundraisers and our hospital charities for all their help and support to the Head and Neck Department and the Maxillofacial team. Over a number of years, and with much hard work, we have developed a surgical service for the local population of Selby and surrounding areas.
“The hospital has fabulous facilities and we were fortunate enough to be able to develop into a thriving service which has positive feedback from both patients and staff and of which we are all very proud. It allows us to deliver a service on the doorstep of our patients avoiding the journey into York. It comes at significant cost to open an operating theatre and without the support of the Friends of Selby Hospital as well as the York Teaching Hospital Charity, this would not have been possible.”
Carol Robson, Chair of the Friends of The Selby New War Memorial Hospital, said: “In the thank you letters we send to people who raise or donate money for us, we always say that all money raised or donated to the Friends of Selby Hospital is spent for the benefit of both in-patients and out-patients. Our aim is also to help bring as many facilities to Selby Hospital as possible in an effort to save the people of Selby and District having to travel to York for treatment.”
