York Hospital event for people and families living with and after cancer
Have you recently been diagnosed with cancer, or perhaps looking to live well with, or after, cancer? Maybe you're supporting someone through their cancer journey and you're filled with questions and worries? Come along to York Hospital on Monday 3 June 2019, between 11.00-3.00pm, to find out about the many organisations and projects available to offer support.
Organised by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the event is an opportunity for anyone affected by cancer, including friends, family and carers.
The Trust’s Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse, Jackie Frazer, explained: “There are now more than 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and over 4,000 people diagnosed at our hospitals every year.
“The impact of cancer often doesn’t end when treatment does, so it’s vital to support those throughout and beyond their cancer diagnosis. This event will have stands from various departments in the Trust, as well as local support charities and organisations, highlighting the great work they are doing to support the people affected by cancer.”
The event has been planned to coincide with National Cancer Survivorship Celebration Day, which this year falls on Sunday 2 June. The day aims to show the world that there is life after a cancer diagnosis - and it’s something to celebrate.
Jackie added: “We know from last year’s feedback that the event offers hope, camaraderie and compassion, as we come together to acknowledge those living with and beyond cancer.
“There will be something of interest for everyone - from Macmillan, York Against Cancer - to a range of local charities and organisations. There will also be several cancer teams and departments from the Trust on hand to explain more about the work we do and offer advice. We look forward to welcoming anyone who would like to come along.”
