Healthcare Assistant, St Helens Hospital
Sue was nominated by a colleague for her skills when it comes to caring for patients with cognitive problems and challenging behaviours. One patient was particularly difficult and did not want to engage with anyone.
Many staff members tried to assist but Sue persisted and using appropriate words and body language engaged with the patient. Sue encouraged him to play dominoes, boosting his self-esteem and he continued to improve throughout the day. Sue is described as ‘an excellent role model’ and is praised for her skills with patients with cognitive and mental health problems.
