Babies Remembrance Service

Parents and families who have suffered the loss of a baby are being invited to attend an annual remembrance service which will take place at St Luke’s Church in Scarborough on Wednesday 18 June.

This is the 22nd year that maternity services at Scarborough Hospital have organised the event which gives bereaved families the opportunity to come together to remember babies they have lost.

Community Midwife Sue Finnigan said: “This event is for families who have suffered the loss of a baby to remember their loved ones and share their experiences with others. Anyone who has lost a baby at any stage of their pregnancy is welcome to attend.

“The invitation is also open to any family members, not just parents, but siblings and grandparents who have gone through this painful experience.”

The Reverend Martin Doe, Hospital Chaplain, will conduct a short service at St Luke’s Church, on Stepney Drive in Scarborough, on Wednesday 18 June, starting at 7.30pm.

There will then be an opportunity for people to visit the crematorium on Woodlands Drive and refreshments will be served after the service at St Luke’s.

The York Teaching Hospital Charity is currently fundraising to provide a new Maternity Bereavement Suite at Scarborough Hospital.

The 'Snowdrop Appeal' aims to raise £120,000 to create a Bereavement Suite on the maternity unit at Scarborough Hospital.  The suite will include a sleeping area, lounge and bathroom, where parents and families can comfort and support each other.
