Building work begins at York A&E

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has warned of disruptions due to building works outside the front of York Hospital’s Emergency Department. Improvements are being made to the department to provide dedicated ambulance assessment trolley bays to help prevent delays in handing patients from the care of the ambulance crews to the Emergency Department (A&E).  It will also help with earlier assessment of these patients, many of whom are very ill.

The building works will also provide additional beds for patients who need to stay in A&E for further observation or those who have been referred elsewhere for social support or admission.

The project is due for completion by Autumn 2014. Service and pedestrian access to the Emergency Department will be affected at times during the early works when parts of the forecourt will be closed off, however the entrance will not be affected. Disabled parking has been moved to the multi-story car park and two drop off points will be provided adjacent to the MRI building with a maximum stay of 20 minutes.
