Bump classes introduced to promote active labour

A new one–off group exercise and information session called ‘BUMP’ has been launched for women who are over 20 weeks pregnant.

Pregnant women are invited to attend the session where an obstetric physiotherapist will give advice, information and exercises to help women keep as comfortable and active as possible in pregnancy and to help prepare them for labour.

Sessions will take place at York Hospital on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon and at Selby Hospital on the morning of the third Monday of every month.

Ceri Willis, Physiotherapist, explained: “As Women’s Health Physiotherapists we are continuing to offer ante-natal group sessions at both York and Selby Hospitals.

“The new BUMP group provides both advice and exercise in pregnancy. We aim to promote activity and well being and give some practical tips on coping with labour.

“This is a one-off session to which ladies may self refer. We are hoping that pregnant ladies will take advantage of this opportunity to have contact with a Physiotherapist during their pregnancy.”

To register women can email bump.group@york.nhs.uk or ring 01904 726204. They will then receive a message either by email or text to confirm their place.
