Healthcare Assistant recruitment event in York

An open day aimed at recruiting healthcare assistants is being held at York Hospital this Friday 5 September at 2pm. A further session will be held on Wednesday 10 September at the York Hospital Social Club.

The recruitment day provides a unique insight into the role of healthcare assistant and is an essential part of the application process.

Will Thornton, Recruitment Manager at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We make a big effort to introduce potential applicants to the life of a healthcare assistant so they get a good idea what the role entails before they even apply. Once people have attended an open day they can then go ahead and apply online. 

This method has proved very successful because, not only do people understand more about the job they are applying for, they also receive advice and support to complete their application. The events also work well for the Trust because the applicants that are appointed are much more likely to enjoy their job and to stay with us.”

Anyone attending the open day will get the chance to hear first hand about the job from current staff and to ask them questions. The Trust’s recruitment team will also be available to provide support and advice in relation to completing applications and preparing for interview.

Will continued “There is no need to book, we hope that following the session people will be able to decide if being a healthcare assistant is right for them. We are looking for people who are compassionate, reliable, motivated and ready for a challenge.”

The first pre-application open day will take place at York Hospital on

Friday 5 September 2014 at 2pm in the Lecture Theatre in the Post Graduate Centre. The second pre-application open day will take place at the York Hospital Social Club on Wednesday 10 September 2014 at 2pm.
