Hospital Trust holds Rheumatology and Dermatology Research awareness event
An event billed as the first of its kind in York has been organised by the rheumatology and dermatology research teams at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to raise awareness of research.
The free event is taking place on Friday 23 October at York Hospital and gives people the opportunity to meet and listen to talks by a variety of members of the different people involved in research.
Anne Gill, rheumatology research nurse, said: “Talks will be given on the day by staff and patient. We have a rheumatology consultant talking about the advances in treatments, safety within research, and why research is important. Research nurses will be talking about the role of the research team, current studies within rheumatology and dermatology, types of studies as well as doing a question and answer session with patients that have participated in various different research studies.
“We will also have a member of the team talking about how the public can help with research and how they can get involved. It’s rare to have experts from so many different roles all in one place so for us it’s very exciting and it’s a unique opportunity for members of the public to come and find out more about these specialised areas of medicine and about research in general.”
The event takes place between 10:00am-3:00pm in the Lecture Theatre and adjoining Common Room, Postgraduate Centre, 5th Floor, Admin Block, York Hospital.
Anyone wishing to attend can contact the rheumatology team on 01904 726295 or email rheumatology.research@york.nhs.uk or the dermatology team on 01904 721853 dermatologyresearchnurses@york.nhs.uk to book their place. A buffet lunch and refreshments are provided.
