Hospital trust invites patients to name health heroes

For the first time York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is inviting patients to nominate a worthy recipient for a new award category in its annual Celebration of Achievement Awards.

The Patient Award will be presented to an individual or team that has shown an exceptionally caring, supportive and compassionate service to patients, their families and friends. It gives the public a chance to say thank you to any staff they feel deserve special recognition.

Patrick Crowley, chief executive, said: "Each year we reward individuals and teams who have been nominated by patients, their relatives and families for excellent service.

"We know there are many examples of how staff have gone out of their way when caring for patients in both hospital and community settings which is why we have launched a new category for this year."

Nomination forms can found in hospital receptions or can be downloaded from the home page of the Trust website and submitted by post, online or in person. The deadline for submissions is 18 April so the Trust is urging people to think about their nominations now.

The Trust has over 8,000 staff working across ten hospital sites and in the community. It is responsible for hospital and specialist healthcare services for approximately 530,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale - an area covering 3,400 square miles which includes community-based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.

For further information about nominations contact Helen Greenley, events coordinator, on (01904) 726491 or e-mail Helen.greenley@york.nhs.uk .
