New car park opens at Scarborough Hospital on Monday 7 April

Scarborough Hospital’s new 262-space car park will open for business on Monday 7 April, making life considerably easier for patients and visitors.

The car park has been built on time and to budget and will see a massive improvement for car parking on the Scarborough Hospital site.

For years there have been multiple complaints from visitors, staff and patients alike with regards to the limited parking available on site so the opening of an additional 262 new spaces is being welcomed by patient groups, local residents and members of the public.

The new car park is designated for visitor and patient use only with other areas previously used by patients and visitors available for staff to use.

James Hayward, Programme Director Capital and Infrastructure, explained: “We are delighted to see the opening of this car park as it has taken over four years of hard work and planning to come to fruition.

“The investment in the car park shows the solid intention of the Trust to make continued and sustainable improvements for patients coming to Scarborough Hospital.”

Following feedback from patients, the car park also uses a new payment system. The new pay-on-foot system, which accepts card and cash payments, will ease the worries of those using the car park as users will pay at the end of their visit alleviating concern about tickets running out.

The new car park, which is located to the left of the main entrance, is fenced and has excellent lighting and security arrangements to further improve the experience of patients and visitors.

Over the coming months the Trust will carry out further work to improve traffic flow and disabled parking on site.

Work began on the project in mid November and was carried out without delay by Kier the main contractor.

Notes to Editors:
