Open day reveals behind the scenes at York Hospital

Visitors to York Hospital will be able to go behind the scenes and see some of the hi tech equipment used to help train doctors and nurses at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Open Day on Thursday 10 September.

As well as meeting staff from all areas of the Trust people will be able to see first-hand the systems that power the hospital with an exclusive tour of the impressive boiler house, and see close up inside an ambulance.

There will be information stands in the hospital’s foyer where staff will be able to explain anything from how the Emergency Department functions on a daily basis to the type of plastic surgery procedures carried out at the hospital.

Patrick Crowley, Chief Executive, said: “We hope as many people as possible will take the opportunity to find out more about who we are and what we do. People will be able to look around areas of the hospital not normally seen by the public and get a real sense of how their local NHS cares for people from beginning to end.

“Right from maternity to end of life care, our staff are looking forward to sharing with the local community what they do on a daily basis. Our cancer care team will also be there on the day to explain a patient’s journey and show people the steps they take to support patients.”

The Open Day starts at 12 noon and finishes at 3pm followed by the Annual General Meeting at 3.15pm in the Chapel. Everyone is welcome.

For those interested in opportunities and careers in the NHS there will be recruitment and specialist staff on hand to offer advice. The Trust’s directors and governors will also be around to answer any questions.
