Proud to be a top 40 hospital...again!

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been named a 40Top Hospital for the 12th year running.

York is one of the CHKS 40Top Hospitals for 2014, an accolade awarded to the 40 top performing CHKS client trusts. The 40Top award is one of several awards that are part of the CHKS Top Hospitals programme.

As well as national awards for patient safety, quality of care and data quality, CHKS celebrates excellence amongst its clients across the UK. The 40Top award is based on the evaluation of 22 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

Patrick Crowley, Chief Executive of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised as a top40 hospital for the 12th year running.

“Over the past 12 months we have seen many improvements to the patient experience and quality of care we provide. Of particular note, is the continued improvement in our hospital mortality rates across both York and Scarborough Hospitals.

“This accolade, and continued improvement in our performance, is testament to the hard work and commitment of each of our 8,500 staff members who are continuing to deliver excellent healthcare despite working in a challenging environment.”

The CHKS Top Hospitals programme awards were held in London on 13May and were attended by over 200 guests including leaders from across the healthcare sector including: NHS England, Monitor, the Trust Development Authority and acute trusts.

Liz Booth, Director of Operations, and Bev Geary, Chief Nurse, collected the award on behalf of the Trust.

Jason Harries, Managing Director of CHKS said: “This year we celebrate our 25th anniversary so it is a fitting occasion to reward excellence in the NHS. These awards recognise outstanding performance in those areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care. We are delighted that York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of our 40Top Hospitals in this special year for our awards.”
