Public asked to name their health hero

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is appealing to the public to nominate a staff member or team who they feel deserves special recognition at its annual staff award ceremony.

Nominations for the Trust’s annual staff recognition awards – The Celebration of Achievement Awards – are open until 26 May 2016.

For the fourth year running patients and families are invited to nominate someone for ‘The Patient Award’ so they can say a public thank you to an outstanding staff member or team.

The award will be presented to an individual or team who has shown an exceptionally caring, supportive and compassionate service to patients, their families and friends.

Patrick Crowley, Chief Executive at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The Celebration of Achievement Staff Recognition Awards have become a valuable and highly regarded way of honouring colleagues who have excelled in their achievements and service for the Trust and to the patients, families and clients we serve.

“I can’t tell you the tremendous sense of pride that I have when listening to stories of outstanding patient care and innovative suggestions from staff, and in the current climate it has never been more important to share, celebrate and recognise the excellent work of the NHS.

“Last year’s event was filled with truly inspirational stories of patient care and innovation and gave everyone a small insight into the diversity of skills, expertise and contributions that people make every day in our Trust."

Last year’s Patient Award was awarded to Leanne Johnston a Nurse at York Hospital for being a “shining light” for her dedication, respect and compassion towards a patient’s family. 

This year’s Celebration of Achievement Awards Ceremony will be held at York Racecourse in October.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has over 8,500 staff working across ten hospital sites and in the community. It is responsible for hospital and specialist healthcare services for approximately 530,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale - an area covering 3,400 square miles which includes community-based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.
