Public invited to name their health hero

For the second year running, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is inviting patients to nominate a worthy recipient to receive ‘The Patient Award’ in its annual Celebration of Achievement  Staff Recognition Awards.

The Patient Award was introduced as part of last year’s awards programme giving the public a chance to say thank you to any staff who they feel deserves special recognition.

The award will be presented to an individual or team who has shown an exceptionally caring, supportive and compassionate service to patients, their families and friends.

Patrick Crowley, Chief Executive, said: “I continue to take great pride in our organisation; you only have to walk around any one of our hospitals or in our communities to see the true dedication of our staff shining through.

“The Celebration of Achievement Staff Recognition Awards have become a valuable and highly regarded way of honouring colleagues who have excelled in their achievements and service for the Trust and to the patients, families and clients we serve.

“This year we hope to have another fantastic response from members of the public for the Patient Award which accounted for 25 percent of the total nominations last year.”

Last year’s Patient Award was presented to John Bunyan a Senior Physiotherapist at York Hospital.

John’s nomination read: “My husband suffers with dementia and finds it difficult to follow instructions at times, John has been constant in his professional caring and encouraging attitude and his kindness has extended to me and my family.”

Last year’s Celebration of Achievement Ceremony took place at Bridlington Spa. This year’s ceremony will take place at York Racecourse on17 July.

Nomination forms can found in hospital receptions or can be downloaded from the Trust website and submitted by post, email or in person. The deadline for submissions is 29 April but the Trust is urging people to think about their nominations now.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has over 8,000 staff working across ten hospital sites and in the community.
