York NHS and Adult Social Care recruitment and careers event

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with City of York Council and Skills for Care, is holding a shared recruitment and careers event, at York Hospital, for anyone interested working for the NHS or in adult social care.

On the day members of the public will be able to find out more about the wide range of vacancies which both sectors are looking to fill.

The event takes place at York Hospital on Saturday 25 March 2017, from 10am - 2pm in the Main Reception.  Those who attend the open day are entitled to free parking and will receive a discount refreshment voucher for the hospital restaurant.  There's no need to book, just turn up on the day.

The Trust is looking to fill vacancies across a variety of departments - from medical staff to nursing and domestics.  Interested candidates will be able to speak to staff and take tours of some departments.  On the day, interviews will be taking place for nursing and theatre staff, so people could potentially come away with a new job.

Polly McMeekin, Deputy Director of Workforce, at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, explains: “With 300 different job roles in the NHS, this event will give people the opportunity to find out about our range of nursing vacancies - as well as other job opportunities.

“Many of the hospitals departments and colleagues from adult social care will be taking part in the event, the first of its kind, so that potential employees can speak directly to staff who already work in these fields of work.”

There will also be a number of representatives from adult social care providers in the York area, who will be able to talk about current vacancies and career opportunities in this sector.

Councillor Carol Runciman, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care said:  “We are happy to support this event which seeks to raise the profile of the number of opportunities available in the health and social care sector.  People who work in social care provide an invaluable service to residents in York and can learn skills that can support career progression.

“This event offers the opportunity to speak directly with recruiting employers and find out about the range of roles available across the city, including apprenticeships. I hope residents come along to the event and find out the opportunities available in the city.”

York College and Coventry University will also be available to discuss educational opportunities and they will be joined by City of York representatives, who will be on hand to discuss the City of York Council Apprenticeship Hub.
