Scarborough Hospital expands cancer information service

Scarborough Hospital is to offer face to face and telephone support for people with cancer and their families four days a week with Macmillan information professionals.

The service replaces a once a month drop-in session which was previously held in the community.

Christine Norris, Lead Cancer Manager for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "There have been many improvements in the availability of cancer information so we want to provide a more tailored approach. This involves regular ongoing support that is accessible every week rather than just one session once a month. The hospital provides a permanent base where people know where to find us and when. People can drop in, give us a call or make an appointment and know they can receive support appropriate to their own situation. "

The cancer information service offers support, signposting and advice to help people deal with issues ranging from coping with a diagnosis and talking about cancer to managing their finances.

The sessions planned for 6 November and 4 December at Scarborough Library will no longer go ahead but anyone is welcome to drop-in at the hospital for information and support. If you are unable to get to the hospital, please feel free to call us on the number below. The newly extended hospital service will be available from 9.30am - 12.30pm and 1.00pm - 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday. There will currently be no Information service available on the first Thursday each month.
