Open days 2019
This September, both York and Scarborough hospitals will be opening their doors to the public, as the Trust hosts two fantastic open days.
The events are an opportunity for wards and departments within the hospital to showcase their work, and to give the public a chance to learn more about what takes place within the hospital on a daily basis. It also includes tours and presentations, giving people a rare opportunity to find out what goes on behind the scenes within the hospital.
At both events, for those interested in opportunities and careers in the NHS, there will be recruitment and specialist staff on hand to offer advice. For those who want to get more involved with hospital life there will be an opportunity to sign up to a skydive with York Teaching Hospital Charity and information available about how to become one of our invaluable volunteers.

Scarborough Hospital is opening its doors to the public on behalf of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to offer an exclusive insider look at some of the hospital departments.
The open day will give patients and local residents the opportunity to explore areas of the hospital not normally open to the public and to find out more about the Trust’s services. It will be held on Thursday 12 September between 12.00pm-3.00pm.
There will be displays by hospital departments and behind the scenes guided tours where people can look around areas of the hospital not normally seen by the public.
Tours are being offered of the award winning Boiler House which supplies all of the hospital’s night time electricity and over 70% of its day time electricity; or discover how our arts team work use art, music and exhibitions to improve the environment of our hospitals for the benefit of our patients and visitors. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. You can find out more and sign up for free here.
Information stands will provide an insider’s guide to some of the hospital’s more specialised services such as theatres, critical care, audiology and family health, amongst others.
What's more, we are also offering on the day interviews for nurses.
Nurses help make the backbone of our hospital and are exactly who you want by your side during difficult times. So if you’re a registered nurse or newly qualified and would like to join our friendly, dynamic, patient focused nursing team, we’d like to offer you an ‘on the day’ interview during the open day.
Come and talk to the Recruitment team on the day, and they'll help you find out more about what we do and the diverse opportunities available. They will also set up an interview for you while you’re there. No preparation is needed as they will go through it all with you and help you every step of the way.
The open day will be followed by the Trust’s annual general meeting at 3pm which is open to all. Here people will be able to hear more from the Trust’s chair, chief executive and directors who will present the annual report and accounts, summarising the past year and giving an overview of future plans.

York Hospital is opening its doors to the public the following week on Tuesday 17 September between 11.00am-2.00pm.
Very similar in format to the Scarborough event, tours are also being offered of York Hospital’s impressive Boiler Room – always popular and fully subscribed. As part of the day, we are also offering an opportunity to hop on board the new 'Hospital Bus' for free, to see just how easy and convenient it is. The bus, which runs every 20 minutes, will drop you right off outside York Hospital's front door. Visitors coming to the open day who catch the bus before 12.00pm from Rawcliffe Bar will receive a free return ticket, which can be used back to the park and ride anytime up to 4.30pm.
