Our hospitals

The Sight Support Service

This service offers support, advice and information to anyone affected by a change in their vision. 
The service is provided by qualified Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs) who provide confidential emotional and practical support for patients who are worried about the impact of their sight loss.  Common areas of concern include:

  • Emotional Impact of sight loss
  • Understanding a diagnosis
  • Maintaining independence
  • Isolation, reduction in social life
  • Reading
  • Day to day tasks
  • Getting around safely
  • Employment and training

The ECLOs have information about local and national support services, both statutory and voluntary. They can either signpost or refer into the chosen services most appropriate to an individual’s need.

This service is provided by in a working partnership with the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Ophthalmology Directorate, the RNIB, and York Blind & Partially Sighted Society.
