Palliative Care - Scarborough Hospital
“Palliative care is the active holistic care of patients with advanced progressive illness. Management of pain and other symptoms and provision of psychological, social and spiritual support is paramount. The goal of palliative care is achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families. Many aspects of palliative care are also applicable earlier in the course of the illness in conjunction with other treatments.” NICE 2004
Palliative Care is provided in many care settings such as community, care homes, hospices and hospital. The hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team supports medical teams and patients in Scarborough and Bridlington Hospitals. We work closely across all settings to ensure that, if required, a patients ongoing care needs will continue to be addressed following discharge from hospital. We can see patients on the ward or in our Palliative Care outpatient clinics.
