Psychological Medicine

The Department of Psychological Medicine, based at The York Hospital, is a modestly sized service comprised of Clinical Psychologists, whose focus is on the delivery of complex and tailored psychological interventions for physically and medically ill patients. 

The Department also leads reflective practice groups with MDT staff to promote and enhance their psychological understanding and emotional responses to patients, and enable their clinical practice.  Training and teaching, audit and supervision are also regularly conducted.

Location

The Department of Psychological Medicine is based at The Old Chapel, Bootham Park, York YO30 7BY. It is a modestly sized service which comprises of Clinical Psychologists and a Macmillan Specialist Counsellor - the focus is on the delivery of complex tailored psychological intervention for physically ill patients.

The Department also leads reflective practice groups with MDT staff to promote and enhance their psychological understanding and emotional responses to patients, and enable their clinical practice. Training and teaching, audit and supervision are also regularly conducted.

While contagious viruses are active year-round, winter is a prime time for norovirus, colds, influenza (flu), and other respiratory illnesses.

 

These infections are highly contagious, so we urge people to stay away unless their visit is absolutely essential to help reduce the spread of infection within our hospitals.

Hospitals are full of sick people, many of them frail and elderly, so bringing germs into a hospital is the worst thing you can do.  We have an active programme of infection prevention but we can’t spot visitors who really shouldn’t be here.  Please stay at home if you’re unwell to help aid the wellbeing and recovery of our patients.
