Neal – Physiotherapist, Scarborough Hospital
“I initially worked for the Trust in York as a physiotherapy assistant. During this time I built good links with the management team and other members of staff who were friendly and welcoming. This largely contributed towards my decision to apply to once again work for the trust once I qualified.
“Having lived locally all my life I was ecstatic to be appointed as a Qualified Physiotherapist at Scarborough Hospital. A particular attraction was the variety of rotations on offer and the general enthusiasm I encountered from the staff when I came to view the hospital and on my interview day.
“Since starting here the support and encouragement I have received has made my transition from student to a qualified member of the team both enjoyable and a rewarding experience. In addition, I have been able to gain a good work-life balance and regularly take advantage of Scarborough’s coastal location.
“Since working here I have been nominated for the Star Award (a monthly accolade which staff can be nominated for by others) and become competent with my on-call respiratory skills. I have also successfully gained a Band 6 position and have recently completed my clinical educators’ course to allow me to mentor students. This is now an exciting time for me as I enjoy my new role and look forward to making service changes. I would encourage any qualifying students to consider working at Scarborough Hospital. The supportive environment and staff make it a desirable place to work.”
