Ben - Senior Physiotherapist, Scarborough Hospital

“I qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2006. Two of my clinical placements I completed as part of my undergraduate training were at Scarborough Hospital. During this time, I had such a positive insight into what it would be like working here, and it was at this point that I knew that this was where I wanted to start my Physiotherapy career.

Ben.jpg“I started working at Scarborough Hospital in June 2008, and over the next 18 months I had rotations in all of the major physiotherapy specialities. Throughout this entire period, I had the opportunity of being able to work with a group of highly skilled and knowledgeable clinical physiotherapy staff, both qualified and non-qualified who helped to support, guide, mentor and shape me into a confident and competent Physiotherapist.

“In January 2011 I was promoted to a rotational Band 6 position and I did this for the next 4 years. However, deep down I knew that I wanted to specialise in critical care, and in September 2014 I was successfully appointed into another Band 6 physiotherapy post on the Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Wards at Scarborough Hospital. I continued to do this until October 2015. I have just recently taken up the post of Band 7, Advanced Clinical Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist, where I am Clinical Lead for Acute Respiratory Physiotherapy Services for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

“Apart from the people and the patients the other great thing about working in Scarborough Hospital is the local geographical area. We are very fortunate to live and work by the seaside, have easy access to the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Wolds and Dalby Forest and also good road and rail access to major cities. We really do have the best of both worlds living and working on the North East Yorkshire Coast.”
