Work Experience

A number of areas throughout our organisation continue to provide placements to students and these placements are arranged via contacts with local universities and higher education establishments as part of the course that the student is undertaking.  We cannot take enquires from students directly for this purpose.  We continue to support this valuable contribution to learning.

In terms of offering other forms of work experience, we have been working hard to establish a manageable means of providing valuable insight and inspiration for those considering a future career in a hospital setting.

With this in mind, we hope that later this year (2017) we are able to offer a work experience programme aimed at 15/16 year olds who show an interest in a career in healthcare.  Once we are at a stage where we can offer places, we will make contact with schools to fill the places. We hope that this will be nearer the summer of 2017.

The plan is to run the programme a number of times per year across a number of sites to maximise availability and ensure that we can provide a truly valuable experience.  As this is a new approach, in the first year numbers will be limited following a pilot run through of the programme. However, if the approach is successful, and feedback suggests students gain valuable insight and experience, we would be looking to expand numbers for future cohorts.

The programme will be designed to signpost attendees on completion to 1) our jobs website 2) our volunteer service 3) our apprenticeship scheme or 4) further more specialised work experience as required by some higher education courses.

Please be mindful of the above information and if you are a student on a university course then please make contact with your tutor to find out if students attend York Hospital on placement as part of your course

OR

if you are at school and considering a career in healthcare or you are a teacher trying to organise work placements, we would very much appreciate your patience until we contact your school with details of places we can offer.
