Families invited to annual 'Special Memories' remembrance service in Scarborough
05 June 2026
Parents, families and loved ones who have experienced the loss of a baby are invited to attend the annual ‘Special Memories’ remembrance service, taking place at St Luke’s Church, Scarborough, on Wednesday 17 June 2026.
Organised by maternity services at Scarborough Hospital, the service is held each year on the third Wednesday in June and offers an opportunity for families to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of babies lost during pregnancy or after birth.
Midwife Sue Finnigan said: “This special service is for anyone who has experienced the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy or following birth. Wherever people find themselves in their grief journey, it offers a way to mark a moment and renew precious memories.”
The invitation is open to anyone affected by the loss of a baby, including parents, siblings, grandparents and other family members.
Bereavement Midwife Kim Hartnett added: “The invitation is open to all family members, not just parents, but also siblings, grandparents and anyone who has experienced this painful loss and wishes to remember their little ones.”
The service will be led by the Hospital Chaplaincy Team and will begin at 7.30pm at St Luke’s Church, Stepney Drive, Scarborough. Lasting approximately 40 minutes, it will include an opportunity for families to light candles in remembrance.
Refreshments will be available after the service, and maternity staff will be on hand throughout the evening to offer support to anyone who may need it. Families may also wish to visit Woodlands Crematorium following the service.
