Critical Care Outreach

Our Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) is made up of specialist nurses who provide expert support to patients across York and Scarborough hospitals. They care for patients whose condition is getting worse or who are at risk of needing treatment in the Critical Care Unit.

The team works closely with ward doctors and nurses to assess patients, provide early treatment and help prevent unnecessary admission to the Critical Care Unit where possible. They also support patients as they move from the unit back to the ward, helping to ensure a safe and smooth recovery.

The team is available 24 hours a day and also provides training and advice to ward staff to help them recognise and respond quickly when patients become unwell.
