Indications

Requirements

 

Abbott ID Now point of care test (PCR)

Any patient with symptoms of a possible respiratory virus infection

Dry nose swab

Laboratory respiratory virus panel (PCR)

Negative for COVID-19 and influenza on rapid ID NOW point of care tests and at least one of the following criteria

 

-        At risk of poor outcome from RVI, e.g. high risk of severe COVID-19 (HRC), immunocompromised, severe underlying comorbidities.

-        Admitted to one of these locations: SCBU, paediatrics, maternity, CCU, HDU, ITU, ward 31, ward 33, Juniper ward.

-        Requested on clinical grounds by a consultant/specialty registrar.

-        Evidence of atypical respiratory infection or recent travel abroad.

 

Combined nose and throat swab.

Send to the laboratory in viral transport media

Lateral flow

From day 6-10 after a first positive COVID-19 test (to guide ending isolation).

Asymptomatic screening before discharge to a care home.

Dry nose swab sent to the laboratory

We are aware of a fire within the grounds of Malton Hospital.

All patients and colleagues have been safely evacuated, and there are no reports of any injuries.
