LimitationsEthyl alcohol is volatile so samples must remain lidded to prevent evaporation causing falsely low results. Urines contain sugars and contamination with microorganisms may yield false positive results due to fermentation of sugar to alcohol. Highly lipaemic samples may cause absorbance errors.
