The Better Births report has set out a vision for maternity services across England to become safer, more personalised, kinder, professional and more family friendly.

The Trust is part of a developing Local Maternity and Neonatal System (Humber and North Yorkshire) that offers choice where to have your care and give birth. This includes York, Scarborough, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Hull. Click here to find out more about the Local Maternity and Neonatal System.

Birth reflections

Pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period can be different for every woman/birthing person and their families.

For some women, their birth experience may not be what they hoped for. Birth often brings up big emotions and it may be helpful to have the space to reflect and talk about these feelings and experiences with a midwife or other health care professional who will also have access to your notes.

Weeks, months or even years after the birth of your baby, you may find that you would like more information about what happened during their birth and why certain things were done.

The Birth Reflections service aims to support you by allowing you to talk through these feelings and events, and have a better understanding of what happened during your labour and birth.

Find out more about birth reflections here.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It's now time to self-refer to our midwifery services via Badger NotesThis is an electronic system aimed at giving mothers more access to and control of their pregnancy records and care notes.

Find out more about accessing Badger Notes.

If you are having difficulties using Badger Notes, or if you do not have a registered GP or NHS number, get in touch with the relevant midwifery team by phone, using the numbers in the contact dropdown.

Personal care plans will help you explore, understand and record your individual choices for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Everyone and their family is different, with individual needs, which have an influence on care and preferences.

You can choose the provider of your antenatal, intrapartum (labour and birth) and postnatal care.

You can make decisions about the support you need during birth and postnatally; and where you would prefer to give birth, whether this is at home, in a midwifery unit or in an obstetric unit, after full discussion of the benefits and risks associated with each option.

Click here to find out more via our Local Maternity System (LMS).

Please ask your midwife about local antenatal classes. These are available from 28 weeks into your pregnancy.

Our maternity department has created a set of films so that you, your birth partner, your family and friends can share your maternity experience.

During your pregnancy, you'll be offered some screening tests to try to find any health conditions that could affect you or your baby.

The tests can help you make choices about further tests and care or treatment during your pregnancy or after your baby is born. All screening tests offered by the NHS are free.

More details on these tests are available on the NHS website.

You can choose to give birth to your baby at home. Your midwife can talk to you more about this.  You can download our home birth leaflet, which explains more.
