The Safeguarding Adults Team

We are York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Adult team.  We offer support to York, Scarborough, Malton, Bridlington, Whitby, Selby and Easingwold Acute Hospitals and community patients and staff.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and works in partnership with a range of other agencies to ensure appropriate actions are taken locally to protect adults at risk of abuse.

The Trust follows a multi-agency procedure for responding to suspected abuse of vulnerable adults.  This means we have an agreement where organisations work together with the person who we think may be abused, to safeguard that person and take what actions we can.  Additionally the Trust has its own policies in the following areas to support staff to care for an adult at risk:

  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Therapeutic Restrictions

Learning disability services

Our Learning Disability Service offers support to people with learning disabilities and their families/carers.  If you need hospital care, we can support you and your family throughout.  Hospital care might mean staying over night in hospital or just going for an appointment.  The team will help you and the hospital staff get to know each other.  They will make sure the staff know how to make you feel most at ease.  You can read more about the learning disability service on the learning disability service website page.
