A bright future for health and care in Bridlington

Your health, your community, your story

People across Bridlington and the East Coast are being invited to help shape the future of local health and care services.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, together with health and care partners, is encouraging patients, local residents, staff and community organisations to share their experiences, ideas and priorities as work continues to develop a long-term vision for health services in Bridlington.

The feedback gathered through this engagement will help inform:

  • The future of services currently provided through the Bridlington Care Unit
  • Development of the Trust's emerging clinical strategy
  • Future health and care services in Bridlington
  • The longer-term vision for Bridlington Hospital

For those unable to attend an event, there will be other opportunities to share feedback, including through the online Bridlington Hospital survey. All responses are anonymous, and we will not ask for your name or contact details.

You can learn more about the services that are available at Bridlington Hospital on the Trust's webpage.

The Bridlington Care Unit was opened in 2021 during the Covid pandemic as a temporary means of creating capacity primarily for patients leaving Scarborough Hospital who were clinically ready for discharge but didn’t have a care package.

Bridlington Care Unit (BCU) is a 28-bed unit (six four-bed bays and four side rooms) that primarily supports patients who are medically fit to be discharged but are awaiting onward care. As the patients on the unit have been discharged from the acute hospital’s care and are medically fit to be discharged, any medical care required by patients on the unit is provided by GPs.

The aim is that all patients benefit from the shortest possible stay on a ward, getting home as soon as they are fit to leave hospital with the support they need.

The NHS is proposing to close the unit and instead strengthen community-based services to help people return home sooner with appropriate support. We would like to understand your views on this proposal and what matters most to you.

The informal drop-in events offer residents the opportunity to meet staff from local health and care organisations, find out more about services available in the town, learn about future plans for Bridlington Hospital, and understand the proposals for the Bridlington Care Unit and wider local health and care services.

Visitors will be able to speak directly with teams, ask questions and share what matters most to them and their communities.

The events will take place at Bridlington Spa:

  • Monday 27 July, 4pm to 7pm
  • Tuesday 28 July, 10am to 1pm

No booking is required, and people are welcome to drop in at any time during the sessions.

For those unable to attend an event, there will be other opportunities to share feedback, including through the online Bridlington Hospital survey.

If you prefer, you can download and print a copy of the Bridlington Hospital survey and return it to us by post. No stamp is required – simply place it in an envelope and pop it in the post.
