Bladder and Bowel Service

The Specialist Bladder and Bowel Service comprises nurses and an Assistant Practitioner who are specialists in the treatment and management of bladder and bowel conditions, including urinary incontinence and bowel incontinence.

We provide services for adults and older people across North Yorkshire, including running accessible clinics in local areas and providing home visits when required. Our aim is to prevent, treat, and manage bladder and bowel dysfunction where possible.

We provide training for community-based health and social care staff to broaden and maintain knowledge and to improve standards of continence care for people in their own homes and in residential care. We also act as a resource for queries and specialist information regarding bladder and bowel dysfunction for all health and social care staff within North Yorkshire, York, and parts of the East Coast.

We accept referrals from GPs and any healthcare professionals involved in an individual's care. Referrals must outline the person's symptoms and their previous medical history. We are unable to accept self-referrals to the service.

Help us keep everyone safe this winter

We’re asking everyone to please help protect our patients, visitors and employees during the winter months.

If you’re feeling unwell, please don’t visit our hospitals - even for appointments or to see loved ones, unless it’s in exceptional circumstances such as end-of-life care or maternity.

Colds, flu, Covid and norovirus (sickness and diarrhoea) can spread easily and cause serious illness in vulnerable patients.

Please only come in once you’ve been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours.

When you do visit:

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe this winter.
