Cancer Care Centre at York Hospital

What does the Cancer Care Centre at York Hospital offer?

Information Service

We offer a wide range of up-to-date information resources covering most aspects of dealing with a diagnosis and living with and beyond cancer.  Unfortunately we are not able to allow you to drop-in to browse the information room but you are most welcome to call us if there is something you would like us to send out to you or a family member.

Complementary Therapies

Sadly we are unable to offer you Complementary Therapy sessions at the moment. Please keep an eye on this section for updates as service changes occur.

The Cancer Psychology Service

The Cancer Psychology team are still able to provide psychological and emotional support for patients and their families, but it isn’t face to face currently. If you would like information about what they are able to provide please talk to a member of your healthcare team.

Benefits Advice and Welfare Support

An experienced Benefits Advisor from the City of York Council is able to assist you with your individual welfare support needs. Unfortunately we are not able to offer face to face appointments within the Centre/ If you would like to make an appointment you can do this directly by speaking to one of your clinical team.

Hair Loss Support

We are still able to offer you some hair loss support if you are a patient undergoing treatment for cancer. We maintain an extensive range of headwear to suit most tastes, which you can access virtually. We are happy to help you choose a style that is easy and comfortable to wear in a style and colour that suits you, but we cannot do it face to face just yet. Call us and we will explain how we can help you with this currently. Please note, we still do not provide wigs. We are no longer able to offer head shaving, wig fitting or wig trimming. But information will be available here if the service changes.

Local Support Groups

Support Groups can help you and your family members cope with a cancer diagnosis and throughout treatment, and beyond. Unfortunately many face to face support groups are no longer able to meet, but there are online and virtual options available.  Contact us if you would like more information about what is available.

‘Look Good….Feel Better’ Pamper Therapy

The ‘Look Good…Feel Better’ pamper sessions have had a makeover of their own. Instead of being able to do face to face workshops, you can now access them virtually. To find out more visit their website www.lgfb.co.uk.

Coronavirus - useful information

The latest health information about Coronavirus can be found at www.gov.uk/coronavirus.

Information and updates about our services can be found on this website here.

From Monday 15 June 2020, visitors and outpatients coming into our hospitals will be asked to wear a face covering at all times, to help us reduce the spread of Covid-19.  A face covering can be as simple as a scarf or bandana that ties behind the head.  It should cover your mouth and nose while allowing you to breathe comfortably.  For more information click here
